COPPER-TRIMMED LOCOMOTIVE IN ARIZONA
The Magma Arizona Railroad was the last common-carrier steam-powered freight operation in the southwestern United States, succumbing to diesels in September, 1968.  Owned by the Magma Copper Company, the smokeboxes of its engines were coated with a copper-based paint.  Just a fortnight from retirement, 2-8-0 No. 5 crossed a timber trestle in the Arizona desert near Globe.
